Paris Pics
Ah, but what's a girl to do when life gets stressful? Run away to Paris! Many of you are here to see the most recent pictures, as I just got back from a month-long [Sept 2004] stay. The photos on this page are from my April 2002 trip. Please go HERE to see the Sept 2004 pics. Give it a minute or two to fully load all the pictures.
**Note - The sidebar pictures are distorted from their originals so as to fit the area.
My first trip to the Eiffel tower
Les Peniches [Barges] along the Seine, with Île de la Cité in the background
Île de la Cité - Home of Notre Dame, Palais de Justice, Police Prefecture, etc.
Institute de France, where I was able to do some research at the Bibliotheque Mazarine
My favorite sculpture in the Jardins de Luxembourg [Luxembourg Gardens]
Le Palais de Luxembourg - close up of clock
and fountain and gardens
The front door of the Pantheon - the average human wouldn't be any taller than a single square on the door
Architectural elements - Above the door and the ceiling
This is why I want to go back to school for Architectural History!!!
Left large for detail - this is the clock tower on the corner of the police prefecture - cool huh?
 Palais de Justice
 Notre Dame
 Classic Gothic Architecture
Matching spired fountain just right of center
My first view of Hotel De Ville [made famous by the Robert Doisneau photo "Kiss at HDV"]
More Seine River shots [below] - these were taken from the Pont D'Arcole bridge between Ile de la Cite and Hotel de Ville and the Pont Des Arts between Le Louvre and the Institute de France
From inside the Cour Carree, a square at the rear of the Louvre. This is the west wing "Sully", which the main arms of the Louvre come out from
The northern wing of the square, across from where I was giving my "dogs" a rest
my first view of the pyramid, as I walked through the west wing, to the front, between the arms
 Northern "Richelieu" arm
 Southern "Denon" arm
Some favorites:
Once you leave the Louvre and head west, you find yourself near the l'Arc du Carousel, and heading into the Tuileries gardens, where the Palais Tuileries once stood before it burned to the ground almost completely
The Tuileries are full of sculpture
 on your way out.........................
Looking back towards Louvre.....not a good summation of the contents of the Tuileries!!!
From the hill [ramp] you can see 3 pictures ago....across the street is Place de la Concorde with two very ornate fountains, the Obelisque, street artists and tourists galore
The street behind the obelisk, with all the trees, is the Champs Elysee
From the Pont de la Concorde, looking back east....Louvre on left, Notre Dame just right of center, Institute de France just right of it
L'Arc de Triomphe - at the northern end of the Champs Elysee
 Details
Entrance to the Theatre Marigny on the Champs Elysee
One entrance of the Grand Palais
Paris has the coolest lamp posts
Petit Palais across the street - both Palais are undergoing refurbishing and it was hard to get a good shot
The very ornate Pont Alexandre III
From the bridge: The building in front of the tower is the American Church
Turning right at the bridge, walking in the "Cours la Reine" or Queen's Run
the entrance to a below-street level park at the corner of the Grand Palais and the Palais de la Decouverte, which are back to back - one of my favorite places in the world!
Looking out the gate across Pont Alex III and the Palais Gd & Pt
Armorial windows along the roof line Left Guard
 Right Guard Above the door
Napoleon. Les Invalides is also a church - mostly ceremonial. St-Louis was built back to back with Les Invalides, as a place to house Napoleons remains.
The rest of these were taken in the park near St-Louis, or at/from the Eiffel Tower
 Trocadero
Grand & Petitie Palais - right about where the crane arm is pointing - that is my secret park :)
 Les Invalides and St-Louis
Le Louvre The parks leading to Ecole Militaire
My hotel....that's my room right where the arrow is pointing.
Palais again - following the river the to the right...Place de la Concorde, entry to the Tuileries. The green roofed building is Place de la Madeleine, and just north of it is the Opera [of Phantom fame]
This is what you see if you could stick your head thru the mesh wire at the top - my hand and camera fit through. People jump occasionaly and end up splatting on the pilons before reaching the ground [sorry!]. There is a silmilar park on the southern side.
Most of the parks that stretch to the Ecole Militaire
Models of Gustave Eiffel [r] and Thomas Edison in Gustave's apartment at the top!
A damn lousy pic of me lol :)
 My two favorite pictures
A bit blurry - but back on the Pont D'Arcole, after having gotten my 8th tattoo
at a shop near the Hotel de Ville. I flipped a NY quarter into the Seine from the middle of the bridge....it's not the Trevi Fountain, but hopefully it'll bring me back to Paris one day!
My last view of Hotel de Ville....also a favorite picture. Ok, now I have to go find something to read in French and eat my baguette!
